Mike,

You are going to struggle with your quest for photos. There is a real vacuum when it comes to pics of 156 Sqn.

According to Dr Theo Boiten, 3 Luftwaffe nightfighter crews made claims against 8 RAF heavies over the North Sea that night. One of the crews can be discounted as they are credited with shooting down a 7 Sqn Stirling. That leaves either Lt Heinz Struning of 2/NJG1 or Hptm Prinz zu Sayn-Wittgenstein of IV/NJG5 (attached 1/NJG1). The former claimed 3 RAF a/c and the latter 4. As this Lancaster has never been found, it is a fair assumption that it came down in the Sea. As there are no further claims by flak units, Dr Boiten considers either pilot to be a candidate in the loss of EE127, but no one will ever know for sure. Unfortunately the Bomber Command Loss Card adds little to the narrative:

As Sgt Worthington was RCAF, you may wish to consider employing a researcher to copy his service record at the Library and Archives Canada (LAC) in Ottawa.

Rgds
