One night in May, 1944, this officer was the rear gunner of an aircraft detailed to attack a target in Northern France. When approaching the target, Flying Officer Felgate sighted an enemy fighter closing in. He promptly gave his pilot clear and concise evading directions and then brought his guns to bear with telling effect. His second burst of fire struck the enemy aircraft which caught fire and fell to the ground.
