Subsequently, ditched while roughly 25 minutes flying time from making landfall on the English coast. The survivors were able to get into the dinghy but the tide tooke them back to the Dutch coast and captivity. WO2 Sommerville was later repatriated, probably during 1944 , after undergoing an operation to amputate one of his feet.

S/L Blenkinsop RCAF was blown clear from the Lancaster and subsequently joined up with a Belgian group of Resistance fighters. In December 1944, he was captured, but instead of being taken to a POW camp, he was taken to a labour camp and is reported to have died in Belsen Concentration camp on 23/1/45. F/Lt G.J. Smith appears to have survived the crash but died some days later, as indicated by his date of death.

405 2/11/1944  Dusseldorf  PB413  Lancaster III  T/o 1707 Gransden Lodge. Hit by flak near Krefeld, wounding F/O Hannah RCAF in the neck and back. F/L Martin took over the controls and flew the Lancaster back to East Anglia. Repeated Darkie calls were made and eventually Debden in Essex responded and it was here that a forced landing was made at 2245. In the confusion, F/S Perini RCAF had baled out over enemy territory. Sadly F/O Hannah RCAF never recovered from his wounds and he died on 27 January 1945.
