One night in October, 1942, this airman was the bomb aimer of an aircraft detailed to attack Cologne. Heavy cloud obscured the city but, displaying great perseverance in the face of heavy anti-aircraft fire, Sergeant Volante succeeded in identifying the correct target.

This airman has completed many sorties and has always displayed high navigational skill, combined with outstanding determination to win through whatever the circumstances.
