DFC  1/02/1944  Flying Officer Reginald Frank GRIFFIN (47170), Royal Air Force, No. 103 Squadron.

One night in December, 1943, this officer was the captain of an aircraft detailed to attack Berlin. At the outset of the sortie the wireless apparatus became unserviceable and a little later the port generator failed, the mid-upper turret being put out of action. Nevertheless, Flying Officer Griffin continued his mission. Before reaching the target area, the rear turret also became unserviceable.
In spite of these defects, Flying Officer Griffin displayed great determination and went on to execute a successful attack against this well defended target. Soon after leaving the area, some other equipment became useless. In the face of much difficulty the return flight was safely accomplished and a safe landing was made.
Flying Officer Griffin displayed great skill and outstanding determination to complete his mission successfully.
This officer has taken part in a very large number of sorties and has rendered valuable service.
